Tinta Roriz or Aragonez
Aragonez is one of the best know castes in the Iberian Peninsula. Originally from Spain where it’s named “Tempranillo” it´s also known as Tinta Roriz in the Douro Region. It is a caste that is very adaptable to different climates and soils and its cultivation has increased and spread to regions of the Dão, Ribatejo and Estremadura. For the characteristics of the Aragonez caste to be excellent its production has to be controlled. The ideal conditions are sandy and clayey-calcareous soils in hot and dry climates allowing a lower production level but with more concentrated berries. This caste produces wines with high alcoholic levels, low acidity and that are ideal for ageing being very resistant to oxidation.
