The Vineyard The Roots

Walking through the streets of Fontes was for him the awakening of the truth. Known by all, especially due to the history of his roots, Pôpa was the unrecognized son of a wealthy father.

Vainly he marched on so that the girls would come to the window as he passed by, as if watching the band go by.

A hardworking helper for his mother he carried, from his father’s vineyards, baskets full of grapes up to the old presses where from a tasty and nutritional fruit, the land and men’s hard work, a privileged drink would be born: the precious nectar, wine.

He was simple, he lived his sadness by accepting the different social realities that separated him from those of his blood and he celebrated his conquests during the grape picking season.

He was passionate; he found love and lived the romance of his life. He married and his wife gave him three children.

He changed but never abandoned the loyalty promised to his mother and the values that she taught him when he was a child.

Who would say that in the future this son would privilege the truth by giving to the fruit that was once his and his family’s subsistence – the grape – a consistent, well told story sweetly flavoured.

Happy, he died with dignity; resting near the ones he loved in his home, next to his father’s vineyards with the promise that one day he would recognize him as his son.

Today it is an honour for one of his sons to present you with this nectar, reinforcing the fact that the struggle, the harmonious wedding between land, love, art and pride of his predecessors, offers you Quinta do Pôpa, a farm that honours his much recognized father.
