Touriga Nacional

This is a very noble and much appreciated caste in Portugal. Initially planted in the Dão region it rapidly extended to the Douro area where it is used to make Porto wine. Recently producers discovered Touriga Nacional’s value in the production of red table wine and its cultivation has been extended to other regions such as the Alentejo. It’s a caste of low production: it has abundant but small bunches. The berries have a high sugar concentration, colour and aroma. The wines produced or blended with the Touriga Nacional caste are very well balanced, alcoholic and have a good ageing capacity.
