"THE DOURO AND THE PÔPA WINE"

"...The other reason for returning to this beautiful Douro region is because of Quinta do Pôpa´s red wines. This Quinta is situated in Adoriga, in the Council of Tabuaço.
I tasted three wines from the 2007 harvest, two varietal (Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz) and a blend. The Touriga Nacional was mediocre not proving itself any better than its counterparts from that region. The other two, however, were positively surprising due to their superior quality.
Quinta do Pôpa Douro Tinta Roriz 2007 – a very elegant, consistent, mature cherry coloured red. Well refined by four months of maturing in new French oak 650 litre barrels.
Quinta do Pôpa VV Douro Old Vines 2007 – an elaborate red with grapes from over 60 year old vineyards, mixed castes (Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca). Fruited aroma and taste despite the four month maturing in new French oak 225 litre barrels, concentrated, embodied, vinous, excellent..."
